Nervous system regulation in children

If you’ve spent any time on TikTok or Instagram lately we are sure you have heard the term “Nervous system regulation”. It is everywhere and for good reason. You may have heard of deep breathing, humming, walking in nature, vagus nervous stimulation, meditation as examples of ways to regulate the nervous system. These tools are all great- but they should be secondary to regulationing the nervous system from a Chiropractic and nerve interference perspective.

So .. what do Chiropractors actually do?

Chiropractic is based on the notion that the body is extremely intelligent.

Our bodies are designed to self heal and self regulate and to do this it requires a well functioning nervous system without interference (Interference can occur when the spine isn’t moving well- we call this “subluxation”). Chiropractors restore movement and function to your spine and remove interference. Our Nervous System is the master control of everything in our entire body (movement, coordination, digestion, hormonal regulation, emotional regulation, immunity… to name a few) – it makes sense to want a well functioning one.

Now that you understand what we do as Chiropractors, let’s talk about why it’s extremely important for children to be adjusted and have a well functioning nervous system and the role it may play in your families health and ability to thrive.

Practitioners at Todd Clinics understand the giant responsibility and task parents undertake to keep their family well and thriving. (3AM Google searches, podcasts, audiobooks and research papers ring a bell?) Every parent wants the absolute best for their child.

However, unfortunately today’s environment is full of stress, toxins and trauma and often parents are barking up the wrong tree to heal their children. We are here to help you navigate the overload of health information out there to ensure you and your family have a nervous system that can function optimally.

It starts with a well regulated nervous system inside-out and then we add the cherries on top after (oils, breathing, gut-healing etc) Nervous system dysregulation may present in different ways in different stages of life. Nervous system dysregulation in Babies/Toddlers and children may look like:
-‘Colic’
-breastfeeding difficulty (difficulty latching, swallowing, breast favouring or refusal, nipples pain or “low” supply)
-unsettledness
-disliking tummy-time
-disliking car-seats
-digestive issues(constipation/diarrhea),
-delayed developmental milestones(ie rolling, sitting, crawling, walking) OR skipping a milestone altogether
-emotional/sensory dysregulation beyond what is a ‘developmentally normal tantrum for their age ’
– Inability to transition, change plans, try new foods, wear certain clothing/materials -anxiety
-poor posture
-low immunity “sick all the time” “can’t kick the sick”

Todd Clinics Chiropractic care is centred around regulating nervous systems so families can thrive in their environment. We use techniques that are appropriate and specific for the patient’s age and tailor a personalised treatment plan to achieve the best results for you.

If you are keen on your child’s nervous system thriving optimally (remembering: your nervous system controls EVERYTHING) make an appointment with your closest Todd Clinics practitioner today.
